Evaluation of the Acute Toxicity of a Mosquito Coil Based-Meperfluthrin

Vector control is the main means of preventing and controlling some parasitic pathologies (malaria, dengue, chikungunya ...). This strategy is mainly focused on reducing contact between human/ vector. This protection is through the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, the wearing of long, clear and covering clothes but by using mosquito repellents such as body products, sprays or coils. This latter method seems to be mostly used by people from developing Countries particularly in Asia and Africa. Doannio [1], reported that the majority (68 to 98%) of the inhabitants of the villages of Bouaké in Côte d’Ivoire used mosquito coils. The reasons were the low cost and the easiest way to use such mosquito repellent method compared to the insecticide treated mosquito net. A varying efficacy of coils against malaria vectors by country was reported by some authors: 19% in Zaire with coils containing DDT in 1987, 52% in Tanzania, 84% in Kenya, 77 to 96% in Cameroon [2-5].
